Initially, there was thought to only be $100,000 in available insurance coverage, but Attorney Mengine used his knowledge of the PA Motor Vehicle Law to uncover an additional $400,000 in coverage, which he was able to obtain for the client. The client received the maximum amount of insurance coverage available as a result.

Katie Killion obtained a settlement of the maximum insurance amount of $300,000 from a local bar that overserved a 19 year-old. The young man became highly intoxicated and was ultimately killed.

Tony Mengine represented a woman who was attacked by her boyfriend’s dog while visiting. The woman sustained facial scars, and a settlement of $300,000 was made, which represented the limits of the homeowner’s policy of the boyfriend. Despite the familiarity of the dog with the woman, attorney Mengine was able to show the dog should have been leashed or restrained.

Brittani Hassen obtained a $300,000 settlement, which was the maximum amount of insurance limits available, for a woman injured in a car accident who was no longer able to work following the accident.

George Kontos and Brittani Hassen secured a multi seven figure settlement in a product liability claim against the manufacturer of a tire.  The tire tread improperly separated causing the commercial vehicle the client was driving to lose control, crash, and burst into flames.  The client sustained third degree burns to more than half of his body including his face, neck, and hands.

George Kontos obtained a six-figure award for an inmate whose attack was facilitated by jail guards.

Katie Killion represented a client who lost his home to a fire.  Before counsel was involved, the insurance company refused to pay the claim and accused the client of starting the fire.  Katie obtained an expert to prove the client wasn’t at fault, and the insurance company paid the client full damages.

Katie Killion represented a client who required multiple back surgeries after an automobile accident.  The damages were catastrophic, but liability was an issue.  The police report placed the blame on Katie’s client and he was even cited for the accident.  Through hard work and perseverance, the case settled for the max amount of the other driver’s insurance policy. 

Katie Killion obtained a settlement on behalf of a local family whose young daughter was thrown to the ground by a daycare worker. Fortunately, the little girl was uninjured, but it was a traumatic event for the family and they were glad to see the daycare held accountable for the incident.

Undisclosed Settlement with Placement of Stop Sign

Tony Mengine and Katie Killion represented the family of a nine year-old child that negligently ran a stop sign and collided with a box truck. The truck driver was not at fault. Attorneys Mengine and Killion fought against the City of Pittsburgh for negligent traffic/road design. Not only did they get the City to pay an undisclosed settlement, they also were able to get a stop sign placed at the intersection where the child died. Hopefully, this will prevent further accidents in the area.
